I have my beetle "fixed" here. It was overheating, they replaced the water pump(which is a new one I bought) then told me that the old water pump was not looking bad, 265$ charged. They fixed something was not the issue and then told me it was not overheating anymore, everything was fine. When I picked up my car, I kept telling them that I had to test driving to see if the problem solved..they didn't care. Right after I got the car, again, overheating. So I returned to them asking if they can check again. The man with a shitty attitude was like, I can do nothing unless hooking up with the computer, it's 85$. They didn't make anything up for the
This mechanic shop, one of the many in the same area, rises above the rest. Most all other shops are booked up and unavailable to vacationers in OBX. On the 4th day of vacation my truck's throttle cable broke and I had a couple of leaks here and there. I had the truck towed into the shop the next day and by the day after that they had it road ready once again. I would highly recommend the mechanics at Taylor's to anyone who needs a mechanic in the OBX, it was a pleasure to deal with them. They are a very knowledgeable shop who provide their auto repair service in a short time frame for a fair price.
I am just telling the facts. This is not a mechanic you are looking for if you care to fix your car.

Great! Straight up talk and honest prices. If I have a problem with the truck while I'm here again I'll be taking it here. Wish he was back home, I'd take all my vehicles to him.
Went straight to Yelp and Google for possible reviews of auto shops in the area -- came up with Taylors and Billy's as possible alternatives. Lucky for us the AAA tow truck driver imparted some sage advice: "They're both great, but if you want it done fast, go to Taylors. If you don't mind getting it sometime this week, go to Billy's." Turns out he was spot on about Taylors. The owner was great, quite personable, and very honest. His mechanics were hilarious and offered great conversation during my down time. From the time our car got towed there to the time that I drove off was ~2.5 hours. Unbelievable response time. And the price was exactly what you'd expect at any prototypical mechanic -- no inflated costs or silly tourist fees.
I don't write bad reviews in general but this is the worst attitude I have ever met among the mechanics this area. Honestly.
Really can't recommend this place highly enough. We were in the perfect storm to have our wallet busted wide open, and Taylors treated us right.
went down to the OBX for a few days and the starter in our car decided to give out. Ugh. And it was the perfect setup to get totally swindled -- on vacation, in a tourist-centric city, in a time crunch. Double ugh. It's taken us years to find a mechanic we trust back home; doubted we'd find anything close here.
