I stayed in the Waves Village WVR31.
Unfortunately we were so looking forward to our stay in Rodanthe, but an unexpected family emergency came up and we had to cancel our trip. I had called after hours and left a message that we needed to cancel and immediately the next morning I had a very sincere message on my phone that they had refunded our money and they wished us the best with our family member. Of course we were following the rules and provided adequate cancellation time, but it was still nice to know that they are a class act considering the many fears of booking things online. We hope that we will be able to reschedule and stay at one of their beautiful locations. Thanks again First Flight!!
To make matters worse, our locks were malfunctioning from our initial arrival. The issue was not able to be resolved within the first 24 hours causing us to have to stay in the unit to ensure the security of our belongings. Huge inconvenience and disappointment. Property manager did not reach out to us to make sure issue was corrected.
The bad: BEDS!! The mattresses are awful and very lumpy, we couldn't sleep more than one night in master as the bed had very bad dip on one side, like sink down 8". The guest bed barely better. No blankets on bed just a sheet and bedspread which I don't think gets washed between guests, it's not a duvet cover its old fashioned bedspread. BATHROOMS!! Very outdated, bad water pressure esp in master, loose fixtures, missing caulk at fixtures, toilet seats w/worn spots, stains on vanities. The guest vanity is extremely lowseated. FLOORS!! Floor was sticky upon arrival, tiles felt very unclean and after walking in white socks we saw just how dirty, keep your shoes on the whole time! All the floor rugs are grossly dirty. TV is large but has coax input and picture is very fuzzy like tv in 1980. Patio doors are nearly impossible to open, really need muscles. There is nice walk area for pets but no trash cans in common areas to throw out pet waste bags. You have to go all the way to dumpster near entrance. Hallways very warm like 80-85.
Conditions of the unit upon arrival were deplorable. The unit was dirty with pet hair all over the floor, pillows and couch. All bed sheets had hair on them. Comforter had dried blood on it (see photos below). Mold was growing in grout of showers. Dead bugs were found in restroom. Many kitchen utensils were not cleaned on arrival.
We have stayed with First Flight Rentals for the last two years and they were a pleasure to work with. Booking online was fast & easy, and when we arrived our house was clean and ready for us to check in. I am happy to recommend these guys to anyone staying on OBX.
We will return to FFR but will always ask for updated units. Will write mgmt about the issues listed and suggest an inspection.
Stayed 4 nights in FFR 301, The Beach's Condo. This was my 3rd unit in FFR and this one was not nice. Other 2 units very nicely updated since 2013/14. For the price we paid we were very disappointed. The good: 3rd floor with decent views, nice covered deck with good deck chairs, kitchen stocked well, big fridge, elevator, nice dog walk area, covered parking, nice beach access, a/c works good, place smells nice. Kitchen appliances worked well. Luggage cart from park lot handy. Keyless entry nice. Ease of online renting with FFRentals.
Great rental company on the Outer Banks. Really enjoyed staying at First Flight Retreat. We'll be back again soon!
We also had an unpleasant encounter with staff member Doris. When asked what she could do to make our vacation better, she ignored our request. She said and I quote, "since we had a fridge and running water, we deserved to pay for it", even though we had no locks to leave or protect ourselves. So we were forced to stay in a dirty unit. I have never encountered such poor customer service. First Flights mission to provide a high level of integrity, ethics, quality, and excellence failed us for our family vacation. Would not recommend or return. Dissatisfaction is an understatement.
